It is good for me that I was afflicted

Psalms 119:45  and I shall walk in a wide place, for I have sought your precepts.

Psalms 119:19     I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!

Psalms 119:94     I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts.

Psalms 119:71     It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.

John 5:39     You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,

Proverbs 2:4-5     if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures,  then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

Ephesians 5:17    Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Psalms 119:48  I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes.

Psalms 1:2     but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psalms 119:15     I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.

“Why then is the Bible read only – not meditated on? Because it is not loved. We do not go to it, as the hungry man to his food, as the miser to his treasure. The loss is incalculable.” (Bridges)

Isn’t it a shame to see how little affection is given to God’s word, the Gospel of Christ, and eternal life.  The depth of ones love for God and His purpose and plan for their life is reflected in their desire for knowing Him through His word, listening to His whispers of guidance through His word, and a heart and soul meditating on that which God is revealing to them.

It is as though our heart and soul are prone to freezing solid as ice in any given moment and God’s word is the heat and warmth keeping it fluid and able to flow for His plans, purpose, honor and glory.

The ice forming cold are the cares and desire of this world, self interest, self reliance, pride, and the want for it.  No one is immune to this freezing cold that so easily blocks desire for God’s word.

Do you want to find warmth for your heart and soul – desire, read and meditate on His word with purpose to know and understand what His perfect plan and purpose is.  From His word we find promises that give us knowledge, understanding, wisdom, hope, joy, love, strength, power, might, refuge, stronghold, courage, faith, peace, and rest.
