Deuteronomy 12:8 “You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, everyone doing whatever is right in his own eyes, for you have not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance that the Lord your God is giving you.
Deuteronomy 12:28 Be careful to obey all these words that I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.
Numbers 15:39 And it shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, to do them, not to follow after your own heart and your own eyes, which you are inclined to whore after.
Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.
Proverbs 28:26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
Ecclesiastes 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
We do well to learn from these verses. There is something within us that tells us we can handle it, we should not wait, we should worry, we should withhold, we should be angry, we should think the worst outcome, we should form our own plan, we should look to self to find solution……What does God say?
Cast your burdens on me, worry about nothing, give generously, forgive, trust me for the outcome, yield to God and His plans, look to Him alone for a solution for He is able to do much more than we ask and much more than we can imagine.
Self has a way of trying to influence our thoughts away from God and the promises found in His word. We need to keep Him first in our problems, trials, and troubles. When thoughts of self start trying to influence our thinking we need to recognize these thoughts for what they are, confess them, run from them, and trust in, rely on and cling to God no matter what comes our way.
This is very easy to say and very hard to keep self at bay when chaos and confusion and frustration and turmoil engulf us. Yet, it is in these very moments we are called to seek His power, refuge, strength, and find rest that we have put it into His hands. His word is the helmet, shield, breastplate, and sword “Our Defense” against what self tries to stir up within us. If you stay close to Him while in times of prosperity you will have the groundwork established to trust Him deeper in rougher times.
What is it you are worried about and trying to solve on your own? Whatever it is give it into God’s hands and by faith wait for His purpose and plans to be exposed to your heart and soul.
