15.p. “I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.”

John 5:30   “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.

John 14:10    Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.

John 8:42     Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.

John 8:28     So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.

Psalms 40:7-8    Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me:  I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”

John 4:34     Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

Psalms 96:13    before the LORD, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Isaiah 11:3-4    And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear,  but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

Romans 2:5    But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

Jesus explained that He is qualified as a completely righteous judge because His power is in submission too and to do the will of God the Father.  How much of our day(s) do we do our will without a single thought too doing the will of God?  I am certain there are those who believe there is God or a god but give no thought to having a personal relationship with Him.  There are fewer who believe Jesus Christ was the Son of God and even of these there are many who give no thought to having a personal relationship with Him.  If we are to come to the Father we must come through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  Here is the difference between these and those who have had a personal relationship with the Son and the Father. Those who believe trust in, cling too and rely on Jesus Christ.  They are aware of sin, their sin, and the Holiness of the Son, Jesus Christ, and the Father, God.  In this awareness, they seek to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.  In this awareness, they have an understanding that has been given to them by and through Jesus Christ.  In this awareness, they have intentionally chosen to seek this relationship and believed the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  In this awareness, they have sought forgiveness, repented of their sin, and believed in salvation and redemption through Jesus Christ.  There is more than just head knowledge.  The difference is that they personally know Jesus Christ rather than knowledge of Him.  They have made an intentional choice to surrender, serve, listen, follow, yield, trust, obey, honor, and glorify Jesus Christ.  They do not seek their own will but continually seek to do the will of Jesus Christ every day.  They do not seek to honor themselves.

Judgment is coming and the wrath of God is being stored up against all who reject Jesus Christ.  Today we are closer to this coming judgment than before.  The warning has been given that this judgment is coming.  The warning has been given that all who reject Jesus Christ will go to hell and be tormented forever and ever in eternity.  It is out of love that God sends these warnings.  “For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son, that whosoever believe in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”  “not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” “But because of your hard and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.”

Knowing of Jesus Christ will never result in repentance or trust.  Knowing Jesus Christ will.  Behold, He stands at the door of your heart, knocking.  Open that door and allow Him in.

15.j.“Go; your son will live.”

John 4:46  So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household. This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.

Signs and wonders can lead a person towards belief in God, and can validate a heavenly messenger – but they can also have no effect on a person.  Signs and wonders from God are obviously good things, but they should not form the foundation of our faith. We should not depend on them to prove God to us. In themselves, signs and wonders cannot change the heart; Israel saw incredible signs at Mount Sinai and even heard the very voice of God, yet a short time later they worshipped a gold calf.  We can see true faith in this official.  He did not seek a sign to believe.  He believed in Jesus’s word.  “Go, your son will live”.  The father begged at mercy’s door for the life of his son and believed what Jesus told him.  The man said, “Come and save my son”.  It is as if the father believed Jesus could heal his son if his son was in the presence of Jesus’s touch. Jesus pointed out to this man that there was a serious issue with his faith.  I am sure the father did not expect to hear a rebuke, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”  But, after this, the father believed his son was healed at the moment Jesus said, “Go, your son lives”.  He had faith to trust in the healing.  This belief in healing at the word of Jesus grew.  It grew from, “my son will be healed because Jesus said so”, to “Jesus is the Messiah, Christ, Son of God.”  When our belief in Jesus Christ awakens our hearts, minds, and souls, we are transformed deep within.  If only we would continue to grow in faith then we might say like ShadrachMeshach, and Abednego, “our God can save us, but even if He doesn’t, we will not bow down and worship your idol.”  When our faith grows we come to a place where we have faith to believe but allow the purpose and plans of God to dictate the outcome without hindering our faith.

15.g. “They asked him to stay with them”

John 4:27  Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” They went out of the town and were coming to him.

John 4:39  Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”

John 4:45  So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him,

Mark 5:15  And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs.  And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region.

Jesus so impressed this woman that she was compelled to tell those in her city that they should come to the well and meet Jesus. Jesus impressed and attracted her, even though He confronted her with her sin.  Jesus displayed so much love and such a sense of security that she felt safe with Him even when her sin was exposed. The woman’s invitation was effective. The people came when she told them who Jesus was and how He had impacted her life with their brief conversation. The people came to see this man who the woman claimed “Can this be the Christ?”  They came to see Him.  What is clear to see about their hearts is that after a brief time with Him at the well they asked Him to stay with them.  The same clarity can be seen in those in Galilee – they welcomed Him.  A different mindset can be seen in the country of Gerasenes.  After a great miracle of casting out demons from a possessed man the shepherds fled and told of it in the city and country.  People came to see, but what they did reflects their heart.  They begged Jesus to leave and depart from their region.  Such is the heart of man.  Some will have a heart that invites Him in and others will beg Him to leave.  Each individual will make a choice of invitation or rejection.  Each individual decision results in either eternal life or eternal hell.  The open heart will find peace, love, refuge, and joy with their invitation to Jesus to stay.  The closed heart will find torment, fear, hatred, and anger with their rejection of Jesus.

Only Jesus can bring peace to the heart, mind, and soul.  Everything else that we believe can or will do this is a deception and lie.

14.w. “You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times”

John 2:18   So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” But he was speaking about the temple of his body. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

John 6:30   So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform?

Matthew 21:23   And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”

Acts 4:7    And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”

Mark 8:11   The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.

Matthew 12:38-42    Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.”  But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.  For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.  The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.  The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

Matthew 16:1-4    And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.  He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’  And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.  An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed.

“But you cannot interpret the signs of the times”.  Wars, rumors of wars, famine, pestilence, earthquakes, ungodliness, lawlessness, rioting, hate, fear, delusion, false teachings, unable to separate false from the truth, falling away from God, and denying God, in more and more increasing numbers and occurrences are all signs of the times and the return of Jesus Christ.  These are signs but where is the voice crying out in the wilderness proclaiming them?  We understand the “World” not seeing and believing but why is it the Christian church silent on these signs?  Have we diluted our walk with Jesus Christ to the point where we are unable to see them ourselves?  Have we bought into a lukewarm comfortable life so close in resemblance to the unbelievers that our eyes are closed to the signs?  Have we strayed far enough away from Jesus Christ that our pastors and teachers, wanting to be culturally correct, do not preach and teach the signs of the times?  Is our heart turning to stone and we are not allowing the Holy Spirit into it to teach, lead, and instruct us?

Some may say we have had wars, famine, disease, riots, wars, earthquakes, etc…. and Jesus has not returned.  It was not true before and is not true now.  The frequency surely has increased and yet it is denied.  The number of countries across the globe experiencing these signs is overwhelming and yet it is denied.  When there should be repentance and a turning to Jesus Christ there is denial and defiance.  Where there should be preparing and looking for the return of Jesus Christ there is denial and defiance.  When there should be a proclaiming of the signs of the times there is silence.

In the last days, God will send a strong delusion and people will grab hold of this like finding a lost treasure.  They will believe they have found truth and they are fighting for the right cause and belief.  They believe lies because they have denied the truth.  These too are signs of the soon return of Jesus Christ.  All of the warnings and signs have been given so that through them people will repent and turn to Jesus Christ.  When Jesus Christ returns will He find you watching and waiting or unprepared?  I imagine there are many right now that are waiting for signs before they get serious about their faith in Jesus Christ.  It is both “not too late” and “too late”.  It is never too late to repent and trust Jesus Christ but the signs would indicate the return of Jesus is closer than ever before.  A heart that rejects the need for redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ will certainly reject the signs of His soon return.   Rejection is an intentional choice.  You are just one breath away from eternity and your choice of belief or rejection will determine Heaven or Hell, blessings or torment, peace or anguish, Eternal light or complete darkness.

Jesus has called us to believe and trust in Him alone.  He has demonstrated His love for us in that He died for our sin.  He has promised blessings now and for eternity. He has told us He will return to gather us onto Himself.  He has told us what the signs will be to indicate His pending return and that we are to watch and be ready.  And He has given warnings of what awaits those who reject Him. If you choose to reject His love how much more will you receive His wrath?  Watch and be Ready!  The signs are there if you are seeking and desiring the return of Jesus Christ.

14.l. I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

John 1:9   The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Isaiah 49:6   he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

1 John 5:20     And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

1 Corinthians 1:21     For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.

Acts 7:51-52    “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.

Imagine at the end of the day when you are very tired.  It is dark outside and you find yourself nicely settling into a much-desired sleep.  30 Minutes into this sound sleep  someone turns on a bright light and with squinting blinking eyes you plead or demand that the light be turned off. On the other hand, there are those who wake when the bright light is turned on and with squinting eyes seem to ask, with anticipation, what?  They aren’t pleading for the light to be shut off.  They want to know why the light is on. The human soul reacts to the bright light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the same two ways.  The soul will either want to know about the light of the Gospel or plead/demand that the light of the Gospel be shut off.  I sometimes wonder what causes the heart and soul to reject the light of the Gospel.  The message of the Gospel is grace, mercy, love, peace, hope, joy, strength, power, forgiveness, refuge, and eternal life.  There is nothing within the Gospel of Jesus Christ that is offensive but still, people will hate, reject, detest, resent, oppose, and become bitter and hostile.  When the Gospel is rejected there is harm to the heart and soul.  When the Gospel is accepted there is life.  But there is more.   Rejection will end in torment, destruction, and eternity in hell.  Acceptance will end in life, blessings, and eternal life in heaven.

14.k. “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’’

John 1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

Malachi 3:1    “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.

Acts 13:24    Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

Matthew 11:10    This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’

Acts 19:4    And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.”

1 Timothy 2:4    who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

2 Peter 3:9    The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

After Malachi, there was a famine. Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.  This famine lasted greater than 400 years and then there was John.  You have to know there were some Jewish people looking forward to this day.  They knew the scriptures that spoke of one coming to prepare the way.  They would be seeing every day as a new day closer to the coming of this messenger who was going to usher in the coming of the Lord.  And then all of a sudden there was John proclaiming repentance and the baptism of repentance. He was preparing the way for the new covenant, the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was not the light but was witness to the light.

When you give thought to this you start to lay the foundation of God’s Grace, Mercy, and Love in your heart. This foundation shows just how much God cares for every single person and how He not only sent a messenger to bear witness to the light but also to prepare the way for each of us to understand salvation and believe in Jesus Christ.  God’s plans and timing are perfect.  God’s plan was for a famine of hearing His Word, a messenger to prepare the way,  and to send His Son.  Whenever you might think God’s love is far off remember how He reached out to you and all of mankind through the messenger, John, and through the redeemer Jesus Christ.

14.c. ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face,”

Malachi 3:1  “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts

Matthew 11:10-11    This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’

Luke 7:26-28    What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.  This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’  I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”

John 1:6-7    There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.

Acts 13:24-25    Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.  And as John was finishing his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

Isaiah 40:3-5  A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Acts 19:4    And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.”

After the prophet Malachi, there was no prophetic voice heard for approximately 500 years.  With a prophet at least the people had a choice to listen to and obey what was being said.  Amos foretold of this time; 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.  Without a prophet, there were multiple groups formed who were claiming the right to interpret scriptures and lead the people.  The understanding of God diminished and confusion ruled.  New traditions and rules were common.  Along comes John the Baptist and though he was clearly revealed in scripture, John was not recognized as the prophet/messenger preparing the way.  The famine of hearing the word of the Lord has an effect on mankind.  Jesus Christ was not recognized.

Imagine what it must have been like for that first generation to have no more prophets.  Generations after this one surely must have been looking for one to come for scriptures were full of examples of prophets sent by God to lead, warn, plead, and encourage the people.  Yet, when John the Baptist arrived he was not recognized as the messenger preparing the way for the Messiah.  A famine of God’s Word has an effect.  It starves the heart mind and soul of the Bread of life and living water.  Today there is a famine but it is not caused by Jesus Christ but rather by intentional choice.  The intentional choice to neglect God’s Word.  Self-induced famine.  What do you suppose replaces this eternal life-giving food?  Things of this world and it’s shallow satisfaction of the present and denial of the future cost to the heart, mind, and soul is what it replaces.  After a while of self-induced famine the heart, mind, and soul live on the dung of this world and think it tastes good. Their hunger for the bread of life and living water is not even a memory anymore.  Do you find yourself unsatisfied, confused, anxious, and worried?  It could be a sign that you are starving.  Come to the Word of God and eat freely from its words.  You will find a fulfilling satisfaction with an unending hunger for more.

13.n. “Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.”

Zachariah 7:8   And the word of the Lord came again to Zechariah: “This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’ “But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears. They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord Almighty was very angry. “‘When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land they left behind them was so desolate that no one traveled through it. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.’”

2 Kings 17:13-15    Yet the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”  But they would not listen, but were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the LORD their God.  They despised his statutes and his covenant that he made with their fathers and the warnings that he gave them. They went after false idols and became false, and they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the LORD had commanded them that they should not do like them.

2 Chronicles 33:10   The LORD spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they paid no attention.

Nehemiah 9:29     And you warned them in order to turn them back to your law. Yet they acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments, but sinned against your rules, which if a person does them, he shall live by them, and they turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not obey.

Proverbs 1:24-32     Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,  because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof,  I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you,  when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.  Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.  Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD,  would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof,  therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices.  For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them;

Jeremiah 44:16     “As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you.

Hebrews 12:25     See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.

They refused to listen; they resisted the warners; they exhibited open contempt for them.  They willfully were ignorant and would not consider nor want to understand.  What level of contempt is it when a person sets their heart hard as stone so that their ears are deaf to the Word of God? Do you ever wonder if people consider the Word of God a burden?  Is this why they harden their heart to God?  Think about this.  The Word of God proclaims a righteous, pure, and holy Creator God.  It proclaims the fall of mankind.  It exposes the sinful nature of man.  It proclaims the separation between God and man due to this fallen sinful state. It proclaims God’s wrath, anger, and judgment. It proclaims God’s grace, mercy, and love toward mankind with promises of restoration, redemption, and salvation.  It proclaims blessings.  It is a guide and restraint to the sinful nature of our hearts.  It proclaims the wonders and mystery of God.  It proclaims the promises of God.  It proclaims warnings.  It yields hope, joy, peace, refuge, courage, power, kindness, forgiveness, and rest for those who have open hearts, minds, souls, and ears to hear, believe, obey, and trust in what God proclaims.  It also yields hardened hearts, minds, souls, and ears to those who defy, deny, and resist what God proclaims.  It promises eternity in heaven for those who believe.  It promises eternity in hell for those who do not believe.

Is it a burden to live for God?  Is it a burden to live holy, righteous, and pleasing to the God of all there is?  Is it a burden to live to honor, glorify, worship, magnify, and praise to God?  Is it a burden to live in loving kindness?  Is it a burden to live showing mercy and grace to others?  It is not a burden but a blessing to be loved by God and in a restored relationship with Him.  What is the alternative to our lives should we choose to deny and defy God?  Isn’t the true burden of life trying to live as though God does not exist?  Every day Creation screams out the existence of God and every day the heart of the deniers must harden more and try to make sense and purpose of this life.  Every day the burden of denial becomes heavier and heavier.  The denying soul will find that the burden of life brings no pleasure or satisfaction even though they search diligently for it in the things this world has to offer.  The Word of God is not a burden.  It is a wondrous blessing from God to His creation.

2.v. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think,

2 Chronicles 25:9  ” And Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do about the hundred talents that I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “The Lord is able to give you much more than this.”

Ephesians 3:20  Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think,

1 Corinthians 2:9    But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—

Ephesians 1:19    and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might

Psalms 36:8-9    They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.  For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Daniel 3:17    If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.  But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

God has no limits and there is nothing He doesn’t understand.  He created the galaxies, universe, planets, stars, air, light, water, plants, animals, and mankind.  By His wisdom, He spoke all of this into creation.  All physics, quantum physics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, gravity, gravitational wave, electromagnetic attraction, and a host of other sciences are all our attempts at explaining what He has created or have been knowledge glimpses given by Him to point us toward His awesome knowledge, understanding, power, might, and wisdom.

Before we got “so smart” there were very few on earth that did not think there was/is a god, gods, or God.  They could see the mysteries of the skies and the wonders of the earth in everything that God created.  They knew it came from someone greater than themselves.  The problem is that they distorted this into false gods, false teachings, and false obedience.  Over time we have grown so smart that we have those who clearly state that there is no God and everything started from a big bang and evolved into what we are now.  Millions of people have chosen to believe these lies.   Others have had their desire and seeking of the Creator limited. They no longer seek Him with an earnest desire. Their eyes are blind and their mind made dull to the Creator and all things created by Him.

No matter how smart we think we have become.  No matter how much knowledge and understanding of the sciences we can explain.  No matter what the human explanation is, God is still God and creator.  He has reached out to mankind;

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.  For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

The verses today are but a few of hundreds that all speak of the love of God and “the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might”

There are many who will try to explain away God.  There are many who teach false gods.  There are those who teach the truth about God.  And yet, it all comes down to me/you and our intentional choice to honor, serve, follow, trust, obey, believe in and rely on the true Creator.  It all comes down to our desire and commitment to Him for He alone is God and worthy of all praise, honor, service, trust, obedience, and glory.

Belief, non-belief, and somewhere in between.  A belief mindset with a whole heart, mind, and soul has visible and unseen qualities and attributes.  These qualities and attributes reflect the light, grace, love, and mercy of Jesus Christ.  This reflection can be a light on a hill to anyone within sight.  This reflection yields to that which honors and glorifies Jesus Christ.  The person who yields must intentionally choose to yield.  Their light does not grow dim or become overshadowed when the darkness of storms roll into their life.  In fact, the light becomes brighter and more visible.  This person spends time in God’s word meditating on it, drinking and breathing it in for they seek above all else to hear and be used by God.  There is hardly a waking moment where they are not living in a sought after presence with Jesus Christ.  They hear, follow, and obey the whispers of the Holy Spirit through His word.  They continue to grow in understanding and knowledge of what it means to deny self.  They grow in understanding of sin and their sinful nature that keeps trying to take control.  They keep their eyes on eternity and humbly walk this life to serve, honor, worship, glorify, follow, obey, trust, and rely on Jesus Christ.

The non-belief mindset gives their whole heart, mind, and soul to do what is right in their own eyes.  Their guidance is focused on that which makes them feel good, in control, and false dreams of purpose.  Their satisfaction is never satisfied.  Their hunger for more pleasing and purpose is never satisfied.  They follow their own desires for self-interest.  Happiness and joy never last and they move from one thing to the next.  They spend their time purposefully without seeking or desiring Jesus Christ.  They happily mock and reject Him.  They are more concerned with things of this world and deny the creator of it.  They are lost and follow the wide path of life that leads to eternity in Hell.  They give approval to their lifestyle and others who do the same.  There is hope for these and others like them to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and be saved.

Those somewhere in between are the ones who are truly lost.  Their belief leads them to think they are right with God but their life has no reflection of the light of Jesus Christ.  Their life in outward appearance looks no different than those with no belief.  They know what to say and they pretend all that they do is all that is expected in Christian life.  They compare themselves with others and perform to a level they think will be acceptable to God.  They spend little time in devotion and even less time in the study of His word.  They may attend church but display no gifts of the Holy Spirit to edify and grow the body of the church.   They have become satisfied with neglect and complacent living.  There are much self-interest activities in their life.  They allow the busyness of life to take control of their life and give little to no thought of Jesus Christ throughout the day.  They are lukewarm and seem to follow the path of least effort when it comes to serving Jesus Christ.  There is no growth and they are stagnating.  They are no more on the path that leads to life than those with no belief.  Because they have once heard and believed but now have chosen to turn their backs to God, His Word, and try to share their self-interest/self-centered heart, soul, and mind with Him.  This is a deception.  There is no sharing of our heart, soul, and mind.  We either give whole to one or the other.  These are the worst for they have the appearance of a Christian but have no power and light of Jesus Christ in their life.
