Tag: Cursed is the man

In whom do you rely

“Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.”

Psalms 20:7  Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.

Psalms 33:16-17   The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue

Isaiah 31:1   Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD!

Jeremiah 17:5  Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the LORD.

2 Chronicles 13:10-12   But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him.

2 Chronicles 14:11   And Asa cried to the LORD his God, “O LORD, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.”

2 Chronicles 32:8   With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Isaiah 2:22    Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he?

Psalms 146:3 Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;on that very day his plans perish.

Isaiah 2:22 Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he? ‘Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s.

Are any of you convicted as much as I am after reading these verses?  It is so easy to trust in my own strength or that of another rather than trust fully in God’s mighty awesome power and steadfast love. God forgive me and my lack of trusting fully in you, for not looking to you first and relying on you, and for my thinking I can handle it on and in my own strength.  In Ephesians it says that God can do more than we ask and much more than we can imagine, so why do we not turn to Him first, trusting in Him?

If I am troubled: “Come onto me all who are heavy with burden and I will give you rest.”

If it is doubting: “Now to Him who is able to abundantly more than we as or imagine”.

If it is about wisdom: “fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”

If it is about money: “man cannot serve both money and God”

If it is about strength: “I am your strength and shield”

However this would be one of my favorite Psalms 139 23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!”
