166. and you shall know that I am the LORD.

1 Kings 20:13   And behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel and said, “Thus says the Lord, Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will give it into your hand this day, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

Exodus 14:18    And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”

Exodus 16:12    “I have heard the grumbling of the people of Israel. Say to them, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God.’”

Isaiah 37:20     So now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the LORD.”

Ezekiel 6:7   And the slain shall fall in your midst, and you shall know that I am the LORD.

Joel 3:17    “So you shall know that I am the LORD your God,

Malachi 1:11     For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations,

Psalms 46:10    “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

God has done many wonders and signs and miracles to show those doubting that He is LORD.  He does this to remove doubt and give the people hope in who God is.  He does this to strengthen those He is helping and to weaken those He is not.  He is God, creator of all we see and much more we can not.  Out of all of His creation, He has chosen mankind.  He has chosen to redeem them through His Son Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He paid on the cross for the sins of all who would believe.

When God says He will be exalted for some it will be a very blessed, holy, joyous event of coming into eternity with God.  For others, it will not be so.  God will be exalted but in their case He will be the judge and knowing their heart and intents throughout their lifetime, and how they rejected Jesus Christ by not believing there was a need for forgiveness or His sacrifice, they will come into eternity being cast into outer darkness, the lake of fire, hell where they will be in torment forever and ever.  Every person’s heart will at some point in their life be softened by God to the point they will see the need for forgiveness and that it can be realized through Jesus Christ, but they reject it time after time and choose to live as though it doesn’t matter, or that they can wait until another time, or that they were in a weakened mental state and now that they have their senses all of this talk of “Sin” and “Need of Forgiveness” and “Jesus” was because of that weakened state of mind and now that they are stronger they can see the foolishness of it.  At the end of the day they reject it flat out or continue to postpone the choice to confess, repent, and be regenerated (born again).

When you read of those who died unexpectedly from wrecks to sickness their ages would indicate that time shorted them in an untimely death.   I always wonder what it must be like for those to have heard the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ and now see the ramification of their choice.  Are they in torment or in paradise?  I am sure if we could ask those in torment why didn’t you choose to believe they would either say I thought it foolishness or that they thought they had more time.  That is why scripture says the day of salvation is NOW, not tomorrow, not when life slows down, not when I have more time, ……..

God demonstrated “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.  And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.  For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.  But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

Death waits for no man.  The day of salvation is now and if you would turn your heart to Jesus, confess with your mouth and believe with your heart and repent from your past ways of living you will be saved.  You will begin a new life with Jesus Christ that will last forever and though death may come at what seems an untimely time the outcome for eternity is secure.

136. But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1 Kings 3:23  Then the king said, “The one says, ‘This is my son that is alive, and your son is dead’; and the other says, ‘No; but your son is dead, and my son is the living one.’” And the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So a sword was brought before the king. And the king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other.” Then the woman whose son was alive said to the king, because her heart yearned for her son, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means put him to death.” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him.” Then the king answered and said, “Give the living child to the first woman, and by no means put him to death; she is his mother.” And all Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.

Exodus 14:31    Israel saw the great power that the LORD used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses.

Joshua 4:14    On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they stood in awe of him just as they had stood in awe of Moses, all the days of his life.

1 Samuel 12:18    So Samuel called upon the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day, and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

Proverbs 24:21     My son, fear the LORD and the king, and do not join with those who do otherwise,

1 Corinthians 1:30    And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

Colossians 2:2   to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

I am always amazed at the power of God in the lives of men of God who have humbled themselves before Him and live to honor and glorify Him.  God does amazing things in the lives of those who are called to His purpose.  I wonder if we look at these examples and say this is not going to happen in my life, I am not like one of these great men.  Are we limiting God in our life?  Are we saying God has changed and will not be active like this in our life?  Is it possible we are just coasting along and happy with a lukewarm walk this God?

God does not change, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  What are we to do to see the hand of God in our life?  We have been given all things (wisdom and Knowledge) in Christ.  We have been given many great and precious promises in His word.  I will never leave you or forsake you.  I seek to prosper you, not to harm you. Cast your burdens on Me and I will give you rest. I gave my only Son to redeem you.  I will be your rock, fortress, refuge, strength, courage, hope, joy, peace, and rest.  I am God and there is no other.  I created you.  I created all there is in heaven and earth.  I know the cattle on a thousand hills and the hairs on your head.  A sparrow does not fall to the ground without Me knowing.  I am the Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end. I love you with steadfast love. I will create a new heaven and earth.  I create a home for you. I can do more than you ask and much more than you can imagine. I am just. I chose you before creation to be with Me.  I am retiring to my Father so that where I am you may be also.  I stand at the door and knock and everyone who opens that door will be with me.  I will lead and guide you.  I am the bread of life.  I am the living water.

If we would just have faith the size of a muster seed we would see great and powerful things of God in our life.  We would not walk with lukewarm hearts and minds but with seeing hot desire to humbly serve, honor, worship, glorify, follow, and obey Him.  Maybe then we would see the wisdom and knowledge of God permeate our lives.

God, please forgive my lack of faith in your power, strength, and love for me.

Make sure you stay rooted in God

Exodus 14:31  Israel saw the great power that the LORD used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses.

Exodus 4:31     And the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had visited the people of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed their heads and worshiped.

2 Chronicles 20:20     And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. And when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be established; believe his prophets, and you will succeed.”

Psalms 106:12-13    Then they believed his words; they sang his praise.  But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.

Luke 8:13   And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away.

Is it true?  Can a person get to a place where they have seen and tasted the awesome power of God and then fall away?  Can it happen to anyone?  How are we to recognize it happening?

Yes it can happen and no one is immune to times of testing that come this side of eternity.  The culture we live in, the people we listen to, the places where we spend time, the things we read,  all have the possibility of pecking away at our beliefs.  They can dilute our walk to a complacent neglect of  God and how we think, act and speak.  We need to take care and be ever discerning of what it means to not just believe but rather to continually grow in our reverence, understanding, knowledge, service, and obedience to God.  Take a quick inventory of what is occupying your time for a day, week, month. Was your actions and thoughts keeping God present in what you were doing?

Spend time each day in His word.  Live each moment with thoughts of how to honor and glorify Him.  Seek to hear His whispers of guidance and purpose in your heart, mind, and soul to not only listen but truly obey.

The battle is not yours

“ I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.”

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

Exodus 14:10  When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD.  They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt?  Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”  And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.  The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”  The LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward.

Numbers 14:9    Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them.”

2 Kings 6:16    He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

2 Chronicles 20:15    And he said, “Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you, ‘Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s.

2 Chronicles 20:17     You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you.”

Psalms 27:1-2    The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?  When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.

Isaiah 35:4    Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.”

Isaiah 30:15    For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling,

Isaiah 41:10-14     fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  Behold, all who are incensed against you shall be put to shame and confounded; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish.  You shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all.  For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”  Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I am the one who helps you, declares the LORD; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

Lamentations 3:26     It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.

Our task today is not to have the strength needed for tomorrow’s burdens. Our task today is to live by the mercies given for today, and to believe that there will be new mercies for tomorrow. Today’s mercies do not include strength for tomorrow; they include faith that tomorrow’s unseen mercies will be sufficient for tomorrow.

It’s important because of how natural and strong is the impulse in our hearts to want to feel sufficient today for tomorrow’s challenges. We don’t like it when the gauge reads “empty” at the end of the day, and we have to go to sleep—if we can—not feeling the power for tomorrow’s troubles.

You can know some of the pressures that are coming tomorrow. And part of your job may be to make some preparations for them. Those preparations are part of today’s “sufficient” trouble. But how those preparations will turn out tomorrow, and whether you feel strong enough today to do your part tomorrow—that is not something God wants you to carry today. Those are tomorrow’s burdens. God does not give mercies today for bearing tomorrow’s burdens.

So we must not compound today’s load with fretting over tomorrow’s. We must not doubt God and say, “I have no more strength; so tomorrow will be impossible to live.” That’s not true. You will not be asked to live tomorrow on today’s strength. What you need today is not tomorrow’s strength, but today’s faith that tomorrow’s mercies will be new and will be enough. 

Faith stands on the promise of God and waits and hopes in weakness and peace. And, of course, that waiting and hoping is part of today’s mercy. Part of today’s mercy is the ability to trust that there will be sufficient mercy for tomorrow. And we trust in that because God promises it

But in spite of all the peace that faith can bring about today, it is not yet tomorrow’s mercy or tomorrow’s power. There’s a difference. And that’s why there is such a battle that goes on. We want the feeling of adequacy today for what we will have to go through tomorrow. But God says, Trust me. I will give it to you when you need it.
