Claiming to be wise

Acts 14:16    In past generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways.

Romans 1:21   For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.  Claiming to be wise, they became fools,  and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.  Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,  because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

Romans 1:28    And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

Psalms 81:5 He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known: “I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket.   In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah.  Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me!  There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god.  I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.  “But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me.  So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels.  Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!  I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes.  Those who hate the LORD would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever. But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

1Peter 4:2  so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.  For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.  With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you;  but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

How many scriptures talk of God reaching out speaking and doing awesome, mighty, and miraculous things and man just not seeing, believing, or listening.  Just as there are great precious promises given to those who do listen, believe, repent, honor, serve, follow and obey there are words of warning to those who reject and neglect God.  If you faced God right now what would you say?  To those who believe they would humbly bow and say Holy, Holy, Holy, worthy is the Lamb.  To those who’s heart is softened to see the need for forgiveness and  seeing the offer of the redemptive work of Christ on the Cross they would say “Forgive me”.  To those who reject God there are no words to speak. Wisdom of this world will never satisfy nor prepare the heart of man for being in the presence of God. They will give account for they have already rejected Him and will be cast into hell, forever to be separated from God.    There will be no ease to this pain for eternity. There is more to life than what we experience this side of eternity.  There is one and only one purpose – to humbly serve, honor, follow and obey God.  For He alone is worthy.

If I am troubled: “Come onto me all who are heavy with burden and I will give you rest.”

If it is doubting: “Now to Him who is able to abundantly more than we as or imagine”.

If it is about wisdom: “fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”

If it is about money: “man cannot serve both money and God”

If it is about strength: “I am your strength and shield”

However this would be one of my favorite Psalms 139 23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!”
